Not Earthquake Country.....

We're not an earthquake country here in the UK so last night at 1am when there were strange rumbly noises and the bed shook that was not the first thing we thought of. In fact neither of us had been to sleep, we were in that dozy state only just awake when you have heightened "danger" awareness.
So - bed shaking, strange noise from somewhere below? Yes it can only be some sort of creature forcing its way from under the floor. Definite monster. Michael said that although we have had experience of rats there would have to be an army of giant rats to lift floor boards and move the bed and that it had to be an earthquake or a big tree uprooted...but I wasn't convinced and it took a long time for the palpitations and heart poundings to stop and for me to drift off to sleep. You feel very vulnerable at that time of night. And its very easy to revert to childish nightmare fears.

Last night's measured 5.2 on the Richter Scale. The only other earth tremor I've felt was four years ago and that was in day time and slight enough to not be scary.

Now on a more relaxed note...


This is my new YarnYard sock/glove yarn. The bigger skein on the right is a subtle purply shade - not the grey in the photo and the other four skeins all mini amounts, not to use for fair-isling as n from the Yarnyard wondered but for heels, edgings on Jane's Cranford Mitts or decoration on Karen's Cupcake Kid Mitts. Or, maybe if I actually dare admit it, just to add to my stash of Yarnyard yarns...

Yes... but this is just one basket. I've got twice as much again squashed into boxes and more sock wool of other brands squashed in bigger boxes, ...... quite a bit more ......But I'm not going to count it up like lots of you have done. I would feel too guilty and I wouldn't enjoy buying more. I'm sure I'll know when to stop - won't I??

Of course there's the lace weight - quite a lot of this and it lasts longer than sock yarn. And wool bought specifically for Other Things. Hmm, we won't go there today....
