Wool Peddler's Shawl

This is the Wool Peddler's Shawl from Cheryl Oberle's Folk Shawls. Traditionally it was knitted in red and worn by the women who sold yarn and knitted goods at the market place so that they would be easily seen. Mine has a frilly furry edging.

P1020880p
I used almost 450m of Knitwitches 100% pure Cashmere DK, shade Jungle Jade on 5.5mm needles with an added edging of KidSilk Haze colour Fern #629. It should be greener but my photoshop skills are not great.

P1020849I used the KSH double and worked two rows garter stitch with increases on the first row about every 5 stitches then five rows of stocking stitch . Then knit f&b in every stitch, purl next row and cast off with a loose lace cast-off.

P1020847The last photo is taken before I blocked it and I have to confess that the first was taken in error on the wrong side and I just didn't notice and now can't face redoing the pictures. It's a major operation in this household right now.

I'm well on the way to completing the next one - in Handmaiden Sea Silk colour ebony and this is going to have a frilly border too. It's a very fast knit - a week or so...

Georgeous, Karthyrn! I love the contrast using the Kidsilk Haze.

I have this pattern book, but haven't knitted anything from it... yet. I fancy the Wool Peddlers, and might actually knit in the traditional red.

This should be totally yummy to wear! This color green goes with so many colors. I love to wear shawls, they are so versatile.

It's beautiful! I really like the idea of using KSH for a frilly edging. It makes for a perfect finish and the yarn you've used is gorgeous, too!
